Since our forefather, the Marriage Astrologer or fortune teller plays an essential role in selecting fortunate marriage date and other Chinese Wedding rituals.

This is mainly due to the social structure of the Chinese community, therefore during the olden days, the matchmakers dominate and the fortune teller served as the judge to give the "green light" to a union.

Nowadays, we might be able to "ditch" the matchmakers. However, we won't be able to completely ignore the service of the fortune teller in choosing a fortunate wedding date.

How the wedding date is selected?
The fortune teller will choose the date according to the couple's Ba Zhi (Date of birth and time). The traditional or old timer astrologer will use the Tong Shu (Chinese Yearly Almanac) while the modern generation practitioner will use the Tong Shu software to do the calculation.

What should you prepare beforehand when meeting the Chinese Astrologer?

1. Your fiance and your date of birth complete with the time of birth.
2. A selection of the dates when you intend to get married. (A range of dates)

What to expect from them?

1. Most prosperous wedding date (if available) from the dates you have provided.
2. The time for the bride and groom to enter the house.(ßM éT)
3. Date and time for fixing the marriage bed.(°² ´²)
4. Conflicting animal zodiac sign during the marriage.

*Based on the couple's Ba Zhi, some couples might need to perform some ritual before the marriage to prevent conflict or issues. However, it's all up to the couple's decision to perform the ritual as advice by the astrologer.

Traditionally, the parents of the groom will be the one who consult the Chinese Marriage Astrologer. However, it's not rare to see the wedding planner or future bride and groom taking in charge most of the roles of preparing their own wedding (including performing the date selection).

Where to find the fortune teller? I am not sure in other places (you could ask the elderly), however in Melaka we normally consult a fortune teller in Taman Asean, Malacca.

What are the charges? Typically, the fee is about MYR 50.00 for a marriage consultation purposes.
