All the above could be sum up by the ritual of fixing the wedding bed. That’s the reason this ritual is very important and should not be foregone for the sake of simplicity.

Earlier, the Chinese marriage Astrologer or fortune teller has chosen the good date for this ceremony. Click here to read about Chinese Marriage Astrologer.

How the ritual will be done?

At the chosen hour and time, a married couple will put a red packet (Ang Pow) containing 1 pair of coins (20 cents or 50cents) under the legs of the bed (four corner). When they do this, they will recite the following phases:

安床大吉
ān chuáng dà jí

百无禁忌
bǎi wú jìn jì

添丁发财
tiān dīng fā cái

儿孙满床
ér sūn mǎn chuáng

The couples who are performing the ritual must fulfill the following criteria:

  1. Must be married. (The longer the better)
  2. Must have children. (At least one son).
  3. The children must be still alive and well.(not suffering from serious illness)
  4. Most importantly, they are not born during the conflicting zodiac animal sign. (advice earlier by the Chinese Astrologer)

After the Chinese Wedding bed has been fixed, they will adjust the bed sheets, pillows and boosters on the marriage bed. Then, a tray containing 8 oranges will be left on the bed for three days.

After three days, the bride and groom will eat the oranges. Aside from that, it is also a Chinese customs to put red packet containing money in the wardrobes and drawers of the wedding bedroom.

All these traditional Chinese wedding rituals especially fixing the Chinese Wedding bed should be passed down to the younger generation for keepsake and should not be dismissed in the name of MODERNAZATION and SIMPLICITY.
