Is this the first time you celebrate Christmas in Melaka? Let me give you a quick preview of how and where we celebrate this joyful event in Melaka, Malaysia.
Christmas is another major festival celebrated by all Malaysians. As early as end of November, you could see Christmas decorations in the major shopping complexes and business premises around Malaysia.
Christmas Tree in Shopping Mall
There is a special Yuletide Spirit in Melaka during this joyful occasion, mainly contributed by the openly celebration by the residents in Portuguese Settlement in Melaka. It is a norm whereby we the Melakan will celebrate Christmas in the Portuguese Settlement. The residents in the settlement will decorate their houses and the roads with colourful lights and Christmas decorations to create the Christmas ambience within the area.
Therefore, you won’t go wrong if you celebrate this festival in Melaka. In the year 2008, the Portuguese Settlement was abuzz as the national Christmas Open House was hosted there.
The settlement, which was established in 1930s, has 118 homes and was gazetted as a heritage village by the state in 2000.
The Portuguese Settlement Village in Ujong Pasir would play host to this year’s national-level Christmas celebrations. Most importantly, our King Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin will join us in celebrating this joyful occasion. Even our Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak would be attending the celebrations in Melaka.
Therefore, come and join us to celebrate and experience this joyful occasion the Melakan way! This is also a historical event as this is the first time our King is celebrating Christmas in the village.
