However, if you prefer to be pampered, you can choose to take a trishaw ride around Melaka City. Trishaw or “Beca“ as it is known in Malay is one of the popular modes of transport among tourists. You also have the options getting around Melaka by bus, car and taxis. Beside that, the more adventurous can rent bicycles.
Getting around by Trishaw or "Beca"
The trishaw is one of the most popular modes of transport to enjoy the historical Melaka city. City Turtle is proud to say that the trishaws in Melaka are the best decorated trishaws in this South-East Asia.
You will also notice that the major difference between the trishaws in Penang and Melaka’s is the position of the passenger seat. In Melaka, the passenger seat is located at the side of the trishaw riders whereas in Penang it is located in front of the trishaw riders.
This is a fun relaxing and exiting way getting around Melaka. Do not feel shy to get information on hot spots from them; they might even share with you the best local tourist secret spot. These trishaw riders can be your best tourist guide as they know the Melaka City like the click of a camera.
However, not many of them could speak good English. Therefore, please be patient and talk slowly. Another way is to show them the photograph of the places of interest that you would like to visit. Generally, you could find them at the Dutch Square and outside Mahkota Parade Shopping Centre.
Before you board the trishaw, do inform them your destination and ask for the rate. The hourly rate fixed by the Melaka’s Government is RM 40.00. You could even arrange for the trishaw to pick you up from your hotel.
Getting around by car
This is another option to enjoy Melaka at your own sweet time. What you need to do is to rent a car and most importantly is to get a map of Melaka State showing all the tourist attraction places.
However, please take note that you will need to buy the parking coupon beforehand. Don’t assume that the parking space without a parking meter is free-of-charge! We don’t want you to be slapped with summon tickets when you are getting around Melaka by car!
This is an easy and inexpensive way to travel around Melaka. There are several bus companies that cater for short trips within the town and the Melaka districts.
The bus operator that caters for the city area is known as Town Bus. These buses are painted green and white. As most of the buses are using tickets machine, please be prepared with some coins as they do not return the change!
As a move to attract more tourists in Melaka, the Melaka’s State Government has launched a “Tourist Bus“ service. It’s known as “Panorama Melaka“. It’s easy to distinguish the tourist bus. This will be another easy and inexpensive way to travel around Melaka. You can kill two birds with one stone that is sightseeing and losing weight!
