Hoe Kopitiam

The Old Timer Coffee shop

Is Hoe Kopitiam Seafood Mee Goreng better than Tengkera Mee Goreng Hassan?

In CityTurtle humble opinion, you have to try it yourself before you make the judgment. This humble old coffee shop is located at Tanjung Kling or Hainam Village which is one of the fishing villages in Melaka.

In this remote place of Melaka outback, theold coffee shop still serves its loyal customers faithfully. Understandably, most of the customers are fishermen.

Although this old coffee shop is operated by Chinese, it does not sell or cook any pork dishes in this premise. This practice has been there for more than twenty over years. Therefore, don’t be surprised to see the Malay and Chinese enjoying their cups of coffee and eating in this old Coffee shop!

According to 56 year old Foo Eng Suan, the co-owner of Hoe Kopitiam, the owner of this land is a Malay and he rented the land from the owner. This old coffee shop is not merely a place to have a good cup of Hainanese brew Coffee or the delicious seafood mee goreng but also to enjoy the village “kampong“ atmosphere.

What’s more it serves as a physical bonding place among people of completely different races, religions, culture and appearance. In this small fishing neighborhood, unity can be seen and felt just by observing the customers in this coffee shop!

This coffee shop operates from 7.00 a.m to 4.30p.m. Dishes that you should try are Seafood Mee Goreng, Yong Tau Foo and the Nasi Lemak (depends on the makcik’s mood) Sometimes it is very good, at other time so-so…

Most Singaporean will request Mrs. Foo to “Ice Pack“ some Yong Tau Foo to bring back home. If you happened to be one of them, call her at 012-2638 394 to prepare your “Ice Pack“ Yong Tau Foo!

Drop by this old Kopitiam while you are on your way to or fro from visiting Hang Tuah’s Mausoleum which is located less that 300 meter away from each other.
