Have you tried Malaysian Fruits? It is highly recommended for you to try the local fruits when you are here; they are not just tasty but also high in mineral and vitamins too!
Malaysia is a tropical country blessed with plenty of tropical fruits; some are seasonal fruits while others are found all year round.
Papayas, bananas, Cempedak (the scientific name is Artocarpus integer) , Jack Fruit (Nangka), Dragon Fruits, Mangoes, Guava (Jambu Batu) and Pineapples are available all year round. Durian, Mangosteen, Rambutan, Langsat, Duku, Snake Fruit (Buah Salak) and Breadfruit (Buah Sukun) are seasonal fruits
.
Most of these Malaysian fruits or tropical fruits are sweet and juicy when eaten fresh. Though some might have a stronger taste and not easy to acquire like Durian, the King of Tropical Fruits.
The queen of tropical fruits : Mangosteens.
Durian has a strong aroma; therefore don't bother to try to "sneak and eat" the fruits alone at the back of your house or in the room as your family members could easily detect it.
Some love the "sweet and nice" aroma of the durians to the extent of having Durian Feast in the Durian orchards and by the road side. However, others might hate it and deem it as "smelly".
At the end of the day, it's all up to one's taste!
Want to know the Queen of the Tropical Fruits? It's the mangosteen!
Mangosteens have white flesh inside and taste sweet. This fruit is one of my favourite fruit, whenever it is the Durian season, you will also get mangosteen.
These fruits complement each other as "King and Queen" of fruits. While you are enjoying this fruit, be extra careful as the stain/juice from mangosteen could leave a "permanent design" on your attire!
Some of these tropical fruits can make excellent dish and dessert. Pineapples and bananas are commonly used in daily cooking. Even Durians, Rambutans, Cempedaks and Nangkas are excellent choice of ingredients for cooking too! However, having said that, you must know how to prepare or cook them......
Ripe Mango + Chilies + Tempoyak + Soy Souce
= Excellent fruit based side dish!
Traditionally, bananas (Pisang) are widely processed as snacks. These snacks (made from bananas) are called Kerepek Pisang and Pisang Salai.
Kerepek Pisang still retains the original sweet taste of the bananas and it is crunchy in texture.
As for Pisang Salai, the thinly sliced bananas are brownish in colour and have a sweeter taste. Nowadays, you could even find snacks made from Jackfruit and Cempedak in the market.
