10 January – 10 March 2009
Venue: Jonker Walk
Highlights: In conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration in mid February 2009, be mesmerized by the colourful lights and lanterns lighted up along Jonker Street. Cultural shows and performances are scheduled at the main stage during this Melaka events.
23 Jan – 22 March 2009
Venue: Dataran Sungai Melaka (Behind Maritime Museum Complex; Flor de la Mar)
Highlights: Colouful lights and miniature Melaka landmarks made from lanterns are on display. It’s a great family getaway for a stroll after a heavy dinner! The all time favorite for kids will be the Red Dragon, Rumah Melaka and Trishaw.
14-17 March 2009
Venue: Along Jalan Kota (The People’s Museum & Beauty Museum)
Highlights: Come and watch the traditional culture of Baby Full Moon Celebrations from each ethnic group in Melaka. (On the 12th March starting at 11.00 a.m to 1.00p.m). Cultural performances will be on the Friday 13th March starting from 3.00 p.m to 5.00p.m. You can even enjoy, watch, sample and buy delicious ethic group food at the exhibition stalls.
14 – 15 March 2009
Venue: Tanjung Tuan
Highlights: Come and join the fun watching birds in a serene and tranquil surrounding of Tanjung Tuan. Visit Peninsular Malaysia’s last remaining coastal forest on the west cost. Walk through the mangrove forest to the top of Tanjung Tuan Forest Reserve to view the marine sanctuary. (Coral reef)
8 – 16 April 2009
Venue: Dataran Bandaraya MBMB, Dataran Pahlawan and Mahkota Parade
Highlights: A cultural event showcasing a variety of percussion and drum music from all over the world. Aside from that, there will be ethnic dance performances accompanied by uncommon music.
24 April 2009 - 3 May 2009
Venue: Kampung Budaya Chetti Melaka, Jalan Gajah Berang, Melaka
Highlights: Pesta Datuk Chachar (Mariamman festival) is one of the festivals celebrated elaborately by the Chitty community in Melaka. Come and join this week long celebration and don’t miss the peak of this festival on the 3rd May 2009; the procession where many devotees carry colouful kavadies. Here I share about this scary festival.
8 – 9 May 2009
Venue: Wisma Seck Kia Eenh at Gajah Berang Street
Highlights: This annual event is held in conjunction with Wesak Day celebrations. There will be a parade of colourfully decorated floats from Buddhist society in Melaka through the street starting from Gajah Berang Street. Click here to read about Wesak Day Celebration
24 – 31 May 2009
Venue: Hang Tuah Mall
Highlights: Tourists who visit Melaka will be entertained with numerous activities and events. C’mon and join the celebrations in Melaka!
31 May – 8 June 2009
Venue: Melaka River
Highlights: Not to miss the traditional wedding ceremony demonstrations from 3.30p.m to 5.00p.m, multi ethnic group performance from 8.30p.m to 11.00p.m. This is a week long celebration. The Launching ceremony will be on the 7th July 2009.
6th – 12th July 2009
Venue: Independence Memorial, Banda Hilir, Melaka.
Highlights: Not to miss the traditional wedding ceremony demonstrations from 3.30p.m to 5.00p.m, multi ethnic group performance from 8.30p.m to 11.00p.m. This is a week long celebration. The Launching ceremony will be at 8.00p.m, 7th July 2009.(Attire: Traditional Costume)
7 July 2009
Venue: Banda Hilir
Highlights: The charm of Melaka is not only found in the designated tourist attractions but also the attractions along its narrow streets, lined with shops and pre-war houses which have stood there for centuries. Acquaint yourself with the Old Melaka either by participating in the walking or running itinery.
September 2009
Venue: Hang Tuah Mall/MITC
Highlights: Exhibition and sale of “Songket“ and handcraft from local and foreign exhibitors.
December 2009
Venue: Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC)
Highlights: A place for bargain hunters looking for inbound (in Malaysia) and outbound (overseas) tourism packages.
