The New Movie Studio: Melakawood

There’s no secret that Melaka (Malacca) is a popular movie studio for the “budget dramas” and local film backdrop filming destination.

However, with the recent declaration of Melaka City as a Unesco World Heritage Site, Melaka has emerged to be a popular backdrop choice for the local and international film makers. The intensity has increased with the success of a well-known drama title Little Nyonya where part of the film was shot in Melaka last year.

This year MediaCorp TV Singapore is making their comeback to Melaka with a new drama in mind. Yes, they are filming part of their 36 episodes drama entitles Together along Jalan Kampung Pantai in Melaka town.

City Turtle Melaka: Datuk Shah Rukh Khan title=

If you happen to spot someone who looks similar like Shah Rukh Khan in Melaka somewhere during the end of this year and early next year (2009/2010). Don’t wait! Grap a piece of paper and ask for his autograph! Opps…where’s the pen?

Don’t be jealous as Melaka (Malacca) has also won the heart of Shah Rukh Khan the Bollywood heart-throb. He will begin filming his latest movie title Happy New Year in Melaka at the end of this year (2009).

Therefore, Bollywood fans out there. Plan your trip to Melaka and you might get a glimpse of your favourite star in action. Maybe you might be invited to be one of the “backdrop scene” faces in his new movie!

With the publicity from Singaporean film makers and Bolloywood, I do wonder if the Hollywood movie maker will head to Melaka and join the fun. Who knows that we might have our very own Hollywood version named “Melakawood”?

Let’s wait and see what the future has in store for my beautiful “awakened” town as she is no longer a “Sleepy Hollow”.
